I thought that this was a good topic and what I really liked about the presentation was the fact that it wasn't all P.E. based and I loved that you guys touched base on the fact that some people may not be good at sports so they may not be as active. I also liked the acrostic poem example because it was a good way of showing how you can incorporate active living into different classroom situations.
Your group brought a great perspective to active living. So often 'being active' is associated with some sort of consumerism - the need to buy yoga pants to be active, or running gear, bikes, etc. I really liked that you encouraged people to look at other activities that are physically active and to be creative this physical activities.
I particularly liked the relay game. I think your whole lesson was well thought-out and you presented it very well. Good job.
This was a great lesson plan! I love how interactive it was. The team activity was my favourite part. Our class was engaged in it, I can only imagine how involved young kids would be! One thing to consider may be how to tailor this activity to children with disabilities. Other than that, I thought it was geared to the right grade level: Grade 3/4. You were effective in describing the outline of what a teacher would need. The poem was a creative way to teach moral examples. It was easy to see how the activities could be tied into different subject levels. Great job!
I really enjoyed your group’s presentation on active living. With child obesity rising, it is important to target children at a young age to become physically active instead of being “couch potatoes”. What was really good about your presentation was how you got our class engaged, both during the team game and the discussion. I think elementary school students will really like the team game because it will really get them thinking about other ways that they can be physically fit and, it also gets them working as a team which is an important skill that they will need as they grow older. Overall, your lesson plan was organized, beneficial and fun. Well done on presenting on such an important topic that kids should know about.
I had a lot of fun with this lesson. I liked that you guys emphasized that physical activity does not always have to be sports based. The relay game was a good way to combine being active with brainstorming. I also appreciated your use of statistics to prove why physical activity is important. Presentation was clearly laid out.
I really enjoyed this lesson plan. It definitely kept us on our feet and engaged. Although this lesson was aimed at elementary, who says university students can’t take part in such activities. I myself got to learn some new movies and activities, like the ‘giant walk’ and octopus dance :) You all did a great job of not only educating us all but also explaining why you chose the lesson while keeping us all engaged. The poems were a creative way to get students to think critically and morally. Everything by the end of the lesson connected well and I definitely learned something new out of it! Like everyone said, the team activity was a great idea.
This was a super fun lesson and I could see it being implemented in any classroom at any grade level. the idea that physical activity does not mean traditional physical education but can be so much more than that- a great way to get kids and adults excited about getting more physically active
I really enjoyed this lesson plan! You guys kept the class engaged and interactive the entire lesson. Not only was your presentation informative, but it was a way for your targeted audience (grades 3 and 4 students) to think outside the box when it came to being active. Most of the time, it is assumed that being active must involve participating in some sort of sport or physically exercising. You stressed the idea that being active could be done in a number or different ways. I particularly liked the relay race you’d set up in the form of an acrostic poem. Great job, guys! You guys did an awesome job!
