Hi everyone,
Very nice to meet you today and hear some of your views on school health education. For today's posting, please click on the "comments" link below and on the next page give a brief introduction of yourself and your study/career interests. We'll spend the first week getting used to using the blog. Also for this week, please read Chapters 1 & 2 in our textbook, and think about a warm up activity you might be able to lead our class in. We'll talk more about this in the next class.
Enjoy the beautiful weather!
Sue

Hey everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Tawnya, I am a fourth year education student. This is my last semester completing my BGS in education with a double minor in Early Learning and Learning Disabilities and Special Needs. I recently found out that I have been accepted into SFU's PDP program for January 2012- I am extremely excited! My overall goal is to become an elementary school teacher. I would love to eventually teach kindergarten to grade 3. I have been volunteering in various elementary schools over the last few years and am hoping to work in a full time kindergarten class this fall. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone a bit better over the course of this semester. See you all soon!
Hi everyone, my name is Sonia and I'm a 5th year Health Sciences student. This is my second-to-last semester in the BA Program and my overall goal is to get my Masters of Public Health (preferably in something to do with Health Promotion or Health Behaviours) and I would eventually like to be working with or at schools aiming to promote healthy behaviours and good health practices towards the school children. I am looking forward to taking this class and getting to know my other classmates and I'm excited. See you all in class next Monday!
ReplyDeleteHi, my name is Bertha and I'm an Education and Psychology major. I completed my Psych requirements last fall and am now working on completing the Education requirements. I hope to move onto PDP afterwards and have been volunteering in an elementary school in Burnaby. I also work at a gym so I have a lot of interest in health programs and health education for kids. Hopefully I can take what I learn from this class and apply it to my everyday work.
ReplyDeleteSee you all next week!

ReplyDeleteHey I'm Ashley and I'm a 5th year Health Science student. My plan is to graduate in June with a BA in HSCI. I'm hoping somewhere throughout these last 2 semesters at SFU I will figure out exactly what path I want to take. Right now, I'm leaning towards public health and hospital administration type work. I'm taking this course to fill credits, though I'm quite interested in the subject as well because I coach high school sports teams and I feel like the course content would help me there. Looking forward to seeing everyone on monday!
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Nancy, I'm 4th year environmental science student. I'm taking this class as a writing intensive elective but, also because I have a lot of interest in health in general. My future career path is uncertain however, there are endevours I'm certain I'd like to explore. One of which is organizing charity runs/marathons to benefit various environmental agencies.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Devon. I am a third year education student. I am working on my BGS in Education and hope to move onto PDP afterwards. I am taking this course because I feel it applys to my area of study and I think it will be beneficial for my future career goals. I plan to become an elementary school teacher in the future and eventually focuse on teaching kindergarten-grade two. I work part-time for my local rec center, running children's programs and birthday parties. I look forward to what I will learn in this course and how it will apply to aspects of my life.
See you all on Monday!
Hello fellow EDUC 371 students!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Ryan and I am a fifth year history major, archaeology minor student. This is my last semester here at Simon Fraser and hopefully, the next stop will be PDP in the fall of 2012. My overall career goal is to become a teacher, preferably at the secondary school level. I took this course not only to fulfill the “W” requirement but I have always been interested in the health field especially when it involves students. I have a bit of knowledge when it comes to health education as I have been coaching for a number of years in baseball, basketball and rugby and, it is always good to see younger athletes (elementary school) being exposed to some kind of physical activity or organized sport structure early in their lives. I am looking forward to meeting and working with everyone this coming semester. Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday!
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name's Erin and this is my final semester studying Health Sciences. I enrolled in this course because I thought it would be relevant to my personal and academic interests. I believe that education and overall health and wellbeing are intrinsically linked, and I hope that this course will help me gain a greater understanding of how the topic of health is approached within the school system.
I won't pretend that I know where my degree will take me... because I don't! But I'm OK with not knowing, and for now I'm just focusing on gaining as many new perspectives as possible :)
Hello EDUC 371 Students!
ReplyDeleteMy name is Karishma, I am also making my way onto completing my BGS in education with a double minor in Early Learning and Learning Disabilities and Special Needs. Following that I will be applying to the PDP program, aiming to become an elementary school teacher. Tawyna and I have a lot in common. After many years of volunteering in classrooms, I can say that I too prefer students in kindergarten to grade 3. I look forward to this semester and getting to know you all (one of the reasons why education classes are the best). Have a good weekend, See you on Monday!
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Katherine. I'm in my last year of a BA in Health Sciences and Certificate of Sustainable Community Development. I've done some volunteer work with health promotion and I also worked at a daycare so I'm really excited to take this class. As for future career interests, I'm planning to do a masters in public policy with a specialization in public health policy.
Look forward to meeting everyone throughout the semester!
Hi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Paige and I'm finishing up my last semester here at SFU- doing my Honours in Psychology and a Minor in Counselling and Human Development. I plan on going into counselling, youth work, or teaching (haven't made up my mind yet but hopefully will soon), so learning how to teach, interact with, and learn from children and youth is really interesting to me. I also work as a tutor in middle/elementary schools and as a Go Girls! mentor with middle school girls, which I think this class will really help me with.
Nice to meet you all! See you Monday!

Hey everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Caroline and I am a fourth year communications student, currently finishing off my final semester (very excited - although I am planning on coming back to SFU for graduate school later on in May 2012). I heard this course is quite interactive, that's why I was interested in taking it. See you guys later on today :)

ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay, I was having trouble posting on the blog! My name’s Alicia, I am a fourth year BA Health Science student, finishing my last semester at SFU. I’m excited to graduate because upon graduation I’m going to volunteer in Ghana. I am particularly interested in health promotion and disease prevention. I took this class to gain a new perspective on school based health education. I’m looking forward to learning more about how to communicate health promotion topics with children.
This semester I am taking a health science class which involves volunteering weekly in an elementary school. I am excited to apply what I learn in this class to my work with the kids this semester :)
See you all next class!
Hey everyone.
